Good bang for your buck alarm

As far as features per dollar go, this alarm is fantastic. I highly recommend getting this version (the 2-way) over the 8007 (the only difference is the 2-way). The reason being, it's very, very nice to be notified your alarm is going off. Then instead of just being a theft deterrent it also becomes a nice paging device to let you know immediately that somethings going on. Alarms go off all the time so if the thief is determined enough he will stay with your bike and try to deactivate the alarm before anyone really takes notice. This is why it's good to have the 2-way remote, if he succeeds in getting the alarm deactivated, he has now stolen your bike. But if he tries to deactivate it and you have the 2-way version, well by the time he's found the unit you can be on him like stains on a mattress (hopefully with a weapon).Anyway, the only thing I don't really like is the range. I have a Viper car alarm in my car which has a 1 mile range so I know what good range is, this alarm claims 1/2 mile but you'll pretty much never get that. It can reach inside normal sized buildings (like an apartment complex) but don't expect it to go more than 100 yards or so, especially if you start getting a lot of walls/buildings in between you and the bike.Installation was a breeze, I used the stick on velcro strips provided but they also provide like 3 other mounting methods so you can choose what you like the best. Velcro is definitely the fastest just make sure you clean whatever your going to stick the velcro to with rubbing alcohol first. If you stick that stuff on a dirty/dusty bike part it's likely to fall off.Lastly, if you've got it all hooked up and can arm/disarm the unit but can't figure out why you aren't getting data back to the 2-way pager, make sure you have the black antenna plugged in then re-sync the remotes ;)

Excellent Customer Service, Flawed Product

The customer service offered by Gorilla is great. It took me awhile to reach them to discuss my issues, but when I did they were very helpful.My review is based upon the longevity of the device. My previous review was 5 stars, when new the product worked great. After only a month orso of riding the alarm is already starting to deteriorate. At one time (when new) a brush of my hand against the bike would trigger the shock sensor. Now i couldprobably ride it half a block before the sensor notices movement. (With settings on most sensitive). I think the build needs to be improved for durability,sport bikes vibrate a lot and wear down products quickly.

Great product, easy install

After having a motorcycle stolen last year, this year when I decided to purchase a new bike I knew I couldn't sleep soundly without knowing my bike would be safe. After reading many consumer reviews I decided on the Gorilla Automotive 8017 Motorcycle Alarm with 2-Way Paging System. It had all the features I wanted (shock sensor, tilt sensor, 2-way paging) and it came at a great deal. Some reviews said that it was not a 30-minute install, it didn't work properly; then there were other reviews that had nothing but good things to say. Listen to those people. I now have a Honda Shadow 750 and for those of you who know cruisers know there isn't any room on these bikes to put an alarm - unless you get inventive. I have limited mechanical abilities and had planned to take this alarm to the dealer and have them install it but after receiving the alarm I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. This was the easiest upgrade I've ever done on anything. The hardest part for me (and most time consuming) was finding a place to place the actual alarm box. If you exclude the 20mins it took to find a hiding place for the box, this alarm was installed in less than 30 minutes. It is literally plug and play. Find where you want the box to go, connect the two wires onto your battery post, run the wires and plug them into the corresponding female ends, mount the remote sensor, and tilt sensor (with the handy included velcro) then viola you have your alarm. Of course I left out programing the remote but trust me, it's easy and you cannot go wrong with this alarm. And in my opinion sport bikes would be so easy it could so easily be mounted under the seat, tail, or even fairings. It works just as advertised and is everything I wanted and more. I wish I had known about this last year.
