5A great tool for tube amps
By Bindlestiff
The flux mod dial gives you about 8.5 DB of damping range. This is a substantial advantage to anyone trying to run a tube amp that needs to keep their levels down. The frame is the usual Eminence stamped steel. It's OK. The dial that does the limiting is a little stiff on both of mine, but since you probably don't want it moving on it's own that's a good thing.I own two Mavericks and like them a lot. If you own a tube amp and need to keep the peace in a condo or apt you -need- one of these! With 75 watts power handling most people won't need to swap it out when they get a gig, just turn the dial to open her up and off you go.I will say it's not some kind of volume-damping miracle that's going to let dial up to 10 and soak your power tubes in the bedroom... but it did let me get my 40 watt Frenzel SDP out of the gate and turned up to 3 - 6 where the output stage could at least breath a little, while keeping levels tolerable in my small rehearsal space. Tonewise I like it fine, even attenuated all the way, but there might be an SPL-damaged tin ear or even two coloring that impression. They definitely benefit from some breaking-in. After 20-30 hours play time and the louder the better, the Maverick opened up a little and gained some definition. I'm liking it in my Avatar Contemporary 1x12 in the studio. I ordered a 2nd to put in an open-back combo cabinet, so that I can pipe a Frenzel Sportster (Champ semi-clone) through it at home. I can crank the SS almost wide open without being ridiculously loud. This Rules. Try to arrange to give it some wide-open break-in early on and you'll be that much happier with yours, otherwise it'll just take longer to open up but will do so eventually if you find a place to crank it once in a while.

4Tone

The Maverick has a great tone and very inavative but I dont think it is worth the money that I paid for it. To me the tonal differance when turning the knob was'nt that great and it didnt fit in my blues jr one of the tubes burnt the back of it, my Swamp Thang sounds sweet in my blues jr mow...Eminence Patriot Swamp Thang 12" 150W Guitar Speaker 8 ohm
