Solid Construction

I work as a 1st AC, and got this laser rangefinder to measure distances for pulling focus, so this review is kind of focused on that kind of functionality. I don't need to measure volume or use any of those more advanced functions that this device offers. It's small! Actually just about the perfect size for a handheld device. Any smaller and it'd be hard to hold. This piece of equipment feels sturdy in your hand. It's just the right weight to feel like a piece of equipment, not a toy. The rubber grip really sticks to your hand, but the grip also sticks in the holster, making it difficult to remove. I also wish this device had was a tripod mount.The screen displays the past 4 measurements, which is handy for when I need to take several measurements and don't have time to write them down right away. This is a huge advantage over cheaper models. You may not need this functionality, but I have found it to be handy.The backlit screen is essential. Sets are often dark near the camera, and the illuminated screen makes this device usable in dim lighting.When you turn on the unit, the laser is automatically on. I'd rather turn on the unit, then push the button again to turn the laser on, but that's just something I have to get used to I guess. While I'm ranting about functionality... You can change the illumination and beep preferences, and it will store those same preferences when you turn the power off & back on. Another "preference" you can change is from what point this device measures, either from the front of the device, or the back of the device. The default is the back of the device. But unlike beep & illumination, as soon as you turn the device off, it reverts back to measuring from the back.Despite those few quirks, this device is solid, well constructed, and well worth the money. Definitely worth every penny.

Built for ease of use and reliability

Press button once to turn it on. Aim it. Press button again to measure (and the laser turns off). Press once again to aim.Automatically remembers the last 10 measurements (even if turned off), and shows 4 measurements at a time.Press button and *hold it* for a second to enable *continuous* measurement (say 5 times a second). Automatically remembers the max and min of a continuous measurement.Very easy to add and subtract measurements! Nice user interface.Cool bracket on the back end of it which allows you to do two things: 1. Easily measure from the edge of something, like a table. 2. Easily measure from the *corner* of a room by pressing the bracket into the corner. The device automatically knows when and how the bracket is being used, so you can't make a mistake when you use it.It's easy to add and subtract room areas, and even room volumes. Quite a clever yet usable device.The only drawback I see is that it doesn't have a screw hole for use with a tripod.Nice straight aim (laser is aligned with the axis of the device, which should go without saying, but this isn't true for all brands).A sturdy yet very precise device, built to last.

I purchased this before Amazon offered it, and have found that it is exactly what I expected. Easy to use and accurate. One note missing from the product description (and the reason I purchased this model) is the rubber 'bumper' that wraps around the meter. The reason for it's importance? Leica added it to provide protection from a drop of 2 meters - something that can absolutely occur on a job site.
