Great for indoor lighting
By Jorgen
The lights were shipped in an box that could fit a water heater.Inside that enormous box was a box half as large.Inside that box were three empty boxes and the light set.The first thing I noticed was how small the lights are.It immediately put into perspective how small the light stands are.The light stands are very similar to the $20 pair of cheap light stands from Cowboy Studio. The build quality of the lights are superb. I mean really top notch. The halogen bulbs are wrapped in bubble wrap. I used gloves to install the bulbs in order to avoid oil causing any damage. The lights emit a great deal of warm light. They are probably around 3,200 K and will work well as indoor lighting. The color temp will not allow for mixed use with daylight. The umbrellas are a reasonable size, and come with their own protective pouch, which is a nice touch. I am particularly impressed with how firmly the umbrellas lock in position; much sturdier than my more expensive light stands. My only qualm with the supplied umbrellas is the loss of light from the back, which isn't significant, but is more present than some of the pricier alternatives. As the other reviewer pointed out, the barn doors are only available for one light. It would have been nice to get three, as they also provide protection to the glass which can break in the supplied carrying bag.For indoor lighting, especially at night, I feel this $$$/quality combo will be very difficult to beat.

Very pleased
By Lawrence R. Oleary
I received the three lights in a timely fashion. They are of good quality and packed well. Be sure to look at the photo well because only one barn door attachment comes with the unit.It works very well in a small environment and sets up fine.I have only used it one time but for the money it is proving to be a good investment. I do my own video and photo productions as a magician and actor and find them very portable.

Small, compact, solid lights. Could use better legs but overall very nice product
By FotoLyfe Studios
I really like the lights. For under $200 these are definitely perfect size and luminosity level for indoor shooting with my DSLR setups. The best thing is when you upgrade to better lights, these would be perfect for fill, back, hair lights, and/or accent lighting with the two umbrellas and the barndoor and comes with it. Obviously, treat it like you would a headlight for cars, be careful and wear a glove when you install the lamp. It's the perfect time to get you a pair of Mechanix glove, they're just about the best thing you can get as a gaffer for when you need to move or take down the lights while it's still hot, and they fit so much better than your normal leather gloves. They are tungsten color balanced so you'll need to invest in some gels if you need color balance for daylight. Roscos generally sells gels and diffusions for 10 dollars per 20"x24" sheets. I wish amazon has them on prime, but adorama has everything. Go to Rosco's website, do some research and see what you need.Pros:The umbrellas are really well built, and the mounting option is perfect as it is already built on the light. Although umbrellas generally don't provide as much light as a softbox, I am really glad I don't need to take 20 minutes setting up two soft lights. The lights themselves are also very good, I turned them all on for 20 minutes a piece, no smoking from paint, the lamps are solid.Cons:Two things, the bags and the lack of extra barndoors. With that duffle bag, you'll probably break the bulbs really quick as they have no padding at all. The other bag for the stands are not great either, but you can fit all 3 legs plus the two umbrellas (make sure you keep them in the casing so the leaves won't get caught on something) in the bag to keep it from hitting against each other.Overall: For a one man show with two DSLR setups, this would be close to perfect. All you'll need after this would be a 600w focusable light for a spot, maybe a soft box or two, and get each light their own barndoors and you'll be all set.PS: Wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a pelican case for your lighting needs in general, but if you want to wait, you can use the packaging that comes with this light to make sure the lights won't break until then. I took the bubble wraps that packaged the lights, laid them flat to line the bottom of the duffle bag, then tore a piece of card board from the boxes to put on top of the bubble wrap and you have yourself some nice padding. Be careful to always let the lights cool before you put them back as a general rule of thumb.
