4Stagg Cymbal Case
By Jason
I've been a pro dummer for 18 years and playing drums for 31 years. I've learned taking short cuts on gear costs me a lot more money later on. So with a 200 plus price tag on this thing, I am expecting to see something very different seeing this case was pretty pricey compared to what is out there in the cymbal case category. And on top of that I had nowhere to actually see it in person. So I took a chance an ordered it online. As for durability, I can't say much right now because I just got it, but it seems like it is built well. The wheels are the only real issue I might see in the future, but most times I don't see me really pulling this anyway. If it is a flat surface you will be pulling it on like tile, you will have no issues. If you play any outdoor gigs and need to go across grass, forget it. Not those type of wheels. As for the case itself, it is very roomy to hold a lot of cymbals. I normally would carry around 2 chinas, 21" ride, 4 crashes, 2 splashes and a set of hats. All went into the case without any issue and plenty of room for more cymbals. However, this case is also pretty big to cart around. At first I didn't care for that, but it has some nice features on it and being any smaller it might not be as nice for these little features. For instance, there is a spot interior of the case for 10" and smaller cymbals ......(SIDE NOTE: whoever put my case together at the factory messed up and the center post does not sit center, so putting a 10" splash cymbal in that spot isn't going to happen. It just won't fit because now the cymbal hits the side wall. However, my intention was to use it for a 7" ice bell and it fits nicely. So the splash compartment isn't a huge issue. Keep this in mind though because if you use a larger icebell or really want your 10" splash cymbal to fit there, you might be exchanging for another case if this is a common problem from the factory. Seeing that in Chicago there aren't any Stagg dealers, I would have to do everything via mail for returns. Kind of a bummer, but it wasn't the end of the world. The cowbell holder section is pretty small. My LP yellow ridge rider cowbell doesn't come close to fitting, but I knew that before I bought it. However, My jam block does fit that spot. Smaller cowbells would work, but I have a trap case for all that stuff as it is. Overall, it is a glorified cymbal case, but I like it. I would say 4 stars for the genral categories....3 stars for price and quality control issue that my case has. So call it a 3.5. The splash compartment and cowbell space are probably not necessary for most drummers. The fact is, for me, it is convenient for these options. It is a rather large case to cart around, but it isn't as heavy as what you would think it to be. SKB or Gator/Protechtor cases would work just fine for most people when it comes to a hard cases. If you want a slim case and take a few cymbals to a show, this is NOT the case for you. If you take numerous cymbals, and like to separate your splash cymbals and such, then you might want to consider this case. It does hold things together well and when you get into the larger size SKB case, this isn't that much bigger, but it is more expensive. If you get it on sale, it might be worth it. But not really worth $208.
