Not the quality product it once was
By K. Gamble
I've had so many pairs of Doctor Martens over the years it's almost stupid. I've worn them since the early 90's, mostly the classic 1460 8-hole.I've been wearing them so long that Docs would come back in style, then go out of style, then come back in again. I didn't care, all I cared about was they were great boots, and well made. I proudly rocked those yellow-laced soles. Then, in the mid 2000's, they stopped making these things in Britain, fired all the staff, and started making them in China. That's when everything started to suck. But don't take my word for it, read the reviews on the classic 1460.I've tried three pairs in the past few years, all of them are terrible. The soles get holes, the leather cracks, holes in the side of the boot appear. I thought these might be better - a little beefier, with what used to be called the "Aztec Combat Sole" (which you can't get on the 1460's anymore). The standard sole is HORRIBLE if you live in a snowy area. ZERO traction. So are these better? Nope, these suck too. The tongue cuts into your foot. The padding in the sole is packed down and worthless after about a month. So, so sad that they screwed up this brand. I used to be so proud of my yellow-stitched boots. I've given this "brand" (that's all it is now) many, many tries over the past few years, but I'm done now. Apparently they recently started making a "classic version" in the UK but you know what? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me five times... I'm done.So sad.

Grateful for small sizes
By Crow
As a backpacker and forest ranger, I have often been frustrated when I tried to find "serious" boots which would fit my tiny feet (women's 5 or girl's 3). Of the eight pair of boots in my closet when I placed this order, my forty year-old Bambinos had been resoled five times and are my favorite boots. Three pair of Raichles failed to match them for comfort on long outings. I decided to take a chance on Doc Martens, and as soon as they arrived, I could tell I was going to be as happy with them as I had been with the Bambinos. The heel cups fit snugly, there is adequate room in both the toe and instep, and the Norwegian welt means that my snowshoe bindings will not slip off my heels. The Norwegian welt also means that when the time comes, I can have these boots resoled. The leather is supple and comfortable and the boots are sturdily constructed. My only objection is that the narrow tongue tends to slip sideways, but few boot manufacturers offer a means of securing the tongue at the top of the boot.

I have bad feet and so far so good
By amberwojo
I have bad feet but needed to get steel toe boots for work. I tried these on and right away they fit pretty good. I have orthotics which made the boots fit better for me, cause there is extra room in the front of the boot. (when does this happen? :))It has taken me about a week and a half to break them in. I say they are good quality boots. For someone like me they are a bit heavy since I'm not used to boots, only tennis shoes. I have picky feet and I think these are great.
