Great Product

Just returned from a trip to Breck, CO where I tested this helmet for the first time. It is very comfortable and warm. I tried on many helmets before buying this one on Amazon. It was the best quality and comfort of all of the helmets. No surprise, it was the most expensive as well. I wore the helmet all day and it remained comfortable until I was done. No itching, chafing, or pressure points. On my second it was also put to the test. I wiped out and somersaulted with my head bouncing off of the snow. It performed very well and I had no injury to my head. I can't say the same about my ankle. I would buy again and will be buying one for the wifey as well. Fit with goggles was great as well. They are actually more comfortable with a helmet vs. beanie.One Con: On the back of the helmet are a couple of fit adjustments. They are of poor design but don't impact the fit of the helmet that much. I hope they fix this. They are not easy to adjust when the helmet is off your head, even more impossible when on. Glove adjustments are not an option.btw: I bought them for $90. Don't pay $140!

I just finished five days of skiing with the Smith Variant helmet. I found it to be excellent. First, it is very comfortable, with a thick mesh lining inside that gives all good around support. There is an additional adjusting strap in the back of the helmet that keeps it from wobbling around on your head. The padded ear pieces fit snugly. After a full day's skiing, I hardly realized I had it on. The second great thing about this helmet is the adjustable ventilation system. Sliders, one on each side of the helmet, adjust the air holes between completely open to completely closed. I seem to get warmer faster than most people when skiing and the Variant ventilation system kept me comfortable. On the warmest day, very high 30's, with the air holes open all the way, I was cool and comfortable and conversely on the coldest day, very low 20's, with the openings open just a little, I was warm and comfortable. It obviously can handle a wide range of temperatures with no problem. I wore Smith Shred goggles with this helmet and the contours of the helmet and goggles match perfectly, but I think most helmet compatible goggles would fit without problems. Like most helmets, there is a strap on the back that secures the goggle strap to the back of the helmet. This helmet can accommodate earphones, but I can't comment on this feature since I don't use them. In comparison to other helmets I have worn, this is the best.

This helmet was well worth the great price I was able to purchase it for. I looked around for quite a while until I found the helmet I wanted, in the color I wanted, at a price I was willing to pay. The helmet fits great. Is is very warm with the vents closed. It was confortably cool with the vents open while skiing in fifty degree conditions. I would, and have recommended it many times.
