As good and simple as advertised

Installed on a new 2012 VW GTI. I researched all my choices. Well made and super simple to install - just as promoted. Can hardly see it under the rear bumber apron. Using a friend's lift and power tool, took less than 10 minutes to install and I am not a skilled 'wrench'(took longer to read the simple installation instructions than to install). Was also shipped super fast. The GTI sits low to the ground so it is difficult to install without lifting the rear of the car. Caution: because the GTI sits low to the ground, there is a risk of scraping the hitch on the ground surface driving up steep driveway entrances - not the fault of the trailer hitch. Only suggestion would be for CURT to curve the actual hitch connector sleeve upward to increase ground clearance once the bike or other attachment is installed. Overall - Great Product!

Rattles on 2012 VW GTI

This hitch was a bit of a pain to install, but its not their fault. Its just a heavy, unwieldy, super-sturdy thing which requires some effort to hold up and bolt into the bottom of your car. It works great for a bike rack, but on the VW GTI (which has a two-nozzle exhaust system) the hitch is only a few mm away from the muffler exhaust pipes and it rattles/clunks (okay, the hitch doesn't rattle, but the muffler bumps up against it when it moves) when I go over bumps. It is rated to pull 2000 pounds and to hold 200 pounds of weight. The rattle is not bad, and I am going to keep it for now. It seems like something I would have to remove if I was going to sell the car.

Easy to install; very clear instructions. Works great with a hitch mounted bicycle rack. Powder coated surfaces should be corrosion resistant.
