reliable and strong
By Paul G. Vigilante
The kitbox is must for me. All my tools are in my truck and get banged around. It protects the tool and holds bits and other accessories as well. Although the drill is heavy its really powerful and for me its a must. Lightweight drills don't work for my needs. I drill alot of hillbilly holes in metal as well as wood and this drill has what it takes. Plus it has enought power to drive large screws as well. I gradually switched all my tools to dewalt 18v so all my batteries and chargers would be uniform. Its is a decision I do not regret. I work my tools for a living and the dewalt stuff holds up. If you need a heavy duty drill this is it.

Not the smoothest but without a doubt the toughest and most powerful 18v
By Villaman
In our trucks we have Milwaukee, Rigid, Bosch, DeWalt, and Hitachi lithium-ion powered cordless drills. We let our guys buy what they think is best and sometimes they get it right on the money as with the DeWalt DCD940 XRP drill. IT has a 3-speed range gearbox that is all metal and tough. A drawback is that when the metal mechanism first locks up it can seem a little clunky like a heavy duty truck clutch. Our guys don't mind this and care more about how well the drill performs. The 3-speed part is where this drill is much better than any other 18v cordless. It can be used at 500 RPM, 1000 RPM, or 1700 RPM depending upon the hole saw size or the material being drilled. We use it mostly at the 1000 RPM setting and only these XRP drills provide it.The clutch is the best holding of any drill I have used. The Makita are terrible and loosen if you look at them, the Milwaukee are not much better, the Hitachi are also poor at keeping a drill bit tightly clamped in the chuck. The all metal chuck of the DeWalt drills is very different. I tighten the chuck by spinning the drill and holding it and when it is close to snug I hand tighten it. When the drill powers up it tightens the chuck even more. Nothing slips, ever.We always buy drills with full size batteries that provide twice the run time and we get Lithium-ion to get the most amps. The DeWalt batteries provide more drilling per charge than the drills from anyone else and it is likely due to the very large batteries which are the heaviest around. Our guys like the Makita for light duty tasks with the lighter weight but if they are doing a deck they grab for the DeWalt XRP drill.

Can't go wrong with Dewalt cordless tools.
By David Hawkins
I have several of these and none have had any problems. I built an addition to my house, and this summer built a log cabin. Used a lot of different Dewalt cordless tools during the construction, and all performed flawlessly.
