Product Description
All Curt hitches feature WeatherTite construction, which prevents rusting from the inside out by sealing the main body of the hitch. The receiver tube has an open back end to allow for easy cleaning and for dirt and moisture to pass through and not get trapped as is common with other brands of hitches. All Curt hitches come with mounting hardware and installation instructions. Curt is the only hitch company in the industry that mechanically de-scales all of their hitches before applying a thick powder coat finish, which is baked on for a high-gloss, smooth surface. Curt trailer hitches are simply the most attractive, most durable and toughest hitch on the market.

Good product, very good customer support

This hitch appeared like it would be a quick install, but when I unbolted the brackets that hold the two mufflers on my LS430 and tried to attach this hitch, I found that the holes were off by about 3/8ths of an inch. I called customer service, and they had me take some measurements, and like i suspected, the vertical flanges on either end were not exactly at 90 degrees to the main beam. The CS representative that I called suggested that I take "adjust" the hitch by using a sledge to bring it back into specs. I first used my 3 lb. sledge, which didn't work at all. Then I took a 10 lb. sledge and used some wood blocks to make sure that my blows would apply force to just the right portion of the hitch. I placed the blocks and hitch against the door post of my garage door. I had to hit the blocks on the other end so hard I was somewhat concerned that I might do some damage to my door post. Of course, when I did this, I had tweaked the hitch a little further than I should, so I had to devise a method to bend it back out a bit. After several tweaks, I got the spread to the right dimension. After that, it was an easy install.I had read some forums on the LS430 where bloggers were appalled by the idea of putting a visible hitch on an LS430. I'll admit that it looks a bit strange, but even though it is a very good looking car, that is not the reason I bought it. I bought it for traveling, since it is the Ultra model that has the reclining and massaging back seats. My wife broke her back a month ago, and this car is comfortable enough that we can still take family vacations. We sold our Suburban which was not as comfortable, but we still need room. With this trailer hitch I can pull a utility trailer to haul our bicycles, etc., while wife can ride in comfort. The hitch is not pretty, but it also is tucked under the bumper far enough that it is not hideous. See the photos I attached. One warning about the wiring--I could not find a plug-in wiring kit, and my Lexus dealer told me to be careful with the wiring because the circuit is part of the body control circuit, and it is possible to shut the car down by splicing into the tail lights. My car electrical skills are only about a 5, so I decided to have the local hitch installer put the wiring in. They quoted me $100 for the job, and since it included a transformer for the LED tail lights, I decided to go with it. Good thing I did. The veteran installer who worked on it took nearly 3 hours to figure it out. He had to run a hot line all the way to the battery, which he had to tuck underneath the plastic panels under the chassis. His preference was to run it through the cabin, but because of the careful sealing of the trunk from the cabin (I believe to help with subwoofer performance), he was not able to do that. So wiring is not for the average DIY type. Apparently no company has taken the time to figure out a simple Y-wiring kit, or it may not even be possible because the taillight circuit may not be adaptable.
