Product Description
POD HD400 represents a giant leap forward for amp modeling. It is the only multi-effect pedal that boasts 16 brand-new state-of-the-art Line 6 HD amp models, 90+ modern and vintage-styled M-class effects, and a comprehensive digital and analog I/O.
HD amp modeling: sound and feel like never before
HD amp models defy the accepted standard. They feel, behave, and interact with previously unachievable realism.Creating these new HD amp models was no small feat. We mixed 15 years of amp modeling experience with 3 years of new research and development to build an entirely new amp modeling technology from the ground up. During that time, we hunted down 16 incredible amplifiers and – with the help of LA’s top tube amp experts – restored each one back to peak condition. The new modeling technology uses 10-times more amplifier information than before, including single-ended class A tube stages, class AB push/pull interactions, power supply behavior, and more. The result is unprecedented, warmth, feel, sustain, and articulation for you to fall in love with.
Tube amp fanatics have long enthused that their favorite stacks and combos aren’t merely “amps,” but instruments themselves, with playability equal to that of the guitar plugged into them. New HD modeling takes the POD HD experience to that same exalted level, capturing the genuine playability that great guitarists demand.

HD better modeling
By ykza5
I just got this pedaleboard to replace my POD xt live. The packaging was good and got it the next day with amazon primeSo far I tried the factory presets and made a few of my own.First of all, HD modeling is a great upgrade from previous pods, it does sound diferent, I'm not and audio tech or anything like that, it really feels very close the real thing. With this one you get fewer amp modeling, but they are 16 greatly modeled amps, and you can tweak every aspect of it to make it sound how you want.I like the fact that now with line 6 edit you can tweak the signal, you can use pre or post effect and the GUI from the new version is really intuitive. The advantage of the 400 is that you have the bank selector and is to my opinion less confusing than the 500.This is really an improvement I really like the new tone, the distrotion for metal are great, and lots of weird sound effects if you're more into experimental stuffThe only thing I would complain about is: 1. You have to download the manual from the line 6 page2. It doesn't have an off switch (that's not a bad thing its just I don't like to be pluging every time I want to use it)Is this better than the 300?? no, Tone is the same, just a few more effects, but I like to have the bank selector separate front the other switches. Is this worth it or should I get the 500? A friend has the 500 and I got really confused making the tones, with so much stuff you can do, you have to be really patient and organized in order to get the tone you want, with 400 is just tweaking a few of the knobs and that's it ready to rock. If you just want play music with good tone and no spend time tweaking stuff the 400 is for you and you save yourself some money.Ask me for a video review and I will gladly post it =)

Great amp sounds & efx but a number of problems
By Ruzzmaster
I am not happy writing a negative review but have always read other people's critiques and found them helpful so I thought I'd pass my own experiences along for all of you to make your own judgements.I am a professional guitarist based in New York City with well over 20 years experience in all kinds of situations - from recording sessions to performances in front of large audiences around the world.I was playing guitar for a musical and was looking for a way to have access to different sounds at the touch of a footswitch. This pedal seemed to have all I needed - quick program setting changes, nice sounds, etc. However, I had so many problems using this unit, as much as I was satisfied with the sound makeup of this pedal, I returned it.1. Volume Pedal: I'm not sure if my pedal was defective, but there were a number of problems here:- The pedal had way too much play. Basically, when I set it to any point, it would just flop to full volume. There was no way to set it anywhere and have it stay there, like is possible with an Ernie Ball (or basically any volume or expression pedal I know).- As a volume pedal, this unit leaves a lot to be desired. There was no appreciable difference in volume from full off to about 3/4 on. Only in the last 1/4 of motion of the pedal was there an audible difference in volume. This is not acceptable.- The volume/wah toggle was impossible to activate from a sitting position, and even standing I often had to step hard on the pedal many times before it would switch.2. Footpedal Buttons:- I found the pedals too close together and would often hit the wrong button when trying to change programs, especially the Mode button, when trying to get to Program A.- I found the Mode Button a HUGE problem: if hit, it meant I had to toggle through Looper and Individual EFX before I could get back to programs. Seriously, I found the lack of a dedicated button for the Looper a MAJOR defect in this unit.3. Tuner: Not really that exact. The settings are: two arrows, one arrow, two asterisks (for in-tune), set on the small viewer screen on the unit. Got me close but for a live situation, I really missed my Korg footpedal tuner.4. On-board Editing: It took a while for me to figure this out, but even after I got the hang of it, I found there was no way to fine-tune the settings. When tweaking a knob during a show (and I like to tweak, as my sound is affected by the room I am performing in), I found that the settings ran in about 12.5% jumps. Really, when tweaking, the individual knob should move in one-percentage steps and show that, not just a vague knob movement on a very small screen on the unit.5. Editing on the Computer: Here I discovered some really annoying problems with the unit that really turned me off to working with it.- I would be setting up sounds/efx, etc. then would want to try them with a different amp. As soon as I would choose another amp, all my efx would disappear and those preset with the present amp setting would pop up and I would have to start the process all over again! What idiot thought of this?- There is no way to copy sounds/amp settings. Any time I had one and maybe wanted to dial in, say, different efx, I would have to start from scratch.- It was very easy to lose old presets when making a new one. The entire save process is in my opinion very problematic.- Naming presets was a real pain in the ass.6. There is no on-off switch. Conclusion: Line 6 did its homework on sounds & efx options, the chassis is great, but I'm sticking with my stompboxes for live use & Logic & Guitar Rig for home recording. Let's hope they get it right in the next generation of their footpedals.

Very Useful Tool
By Keith
I've been using a POD HD400 for a couple of months now in a P&W venue where there is no option but going direct to the PA. I tried several different setups before getting the POD, and it is by far the best sound and most flexible setup for that situation.I also use it for practice, and the patch editing software is very helpful. Not the best UI in the world, but it gets the job done. Trying to manually fiddle with all the settings is not as precise, and with the software it's easy to make minor changes and switch back and forth to fine tune the sound. Then, you can rearrange for easiest switching during performance. The manual (PDF download) could be better.Tech specs are totally absent. Very disappointing. Also, be aware that Line 6 does not support any headphones lower than 150 ohms. Some people have lots of problems with headphone output with "normal" impedance phones. (I use an old set of Sony MDR V6's and they are a bit loud, but good quality, IMO.) If you have headphones that don't sound good, you will get NO help from Line 6, so be prepared to throw $200+ at phones they recommend.
